Preparation

This is the key to an easy life, you have to prepare in advance, if you think that you can simply get some boxes together, throw your things in and everything will be easy then you are mistaken. When it comes to getting yourself ready in good time for your move here is what you should be looking at:

Boxes

I’d recommend that you purchase boxes that are specifically for removals, they are more durable and they will all be the same size, perfect for transportation. Ensure that you buy a generous amount, it is always better to have more than you may need, the last thing you need on moving day is having to do a run for more boxes.

Labelling

At the time, it may seem like a chore but if you want moving day to be smooth then you need to be super organized when it comes to how you package and label your boxes. Color coding is a great idea, green for kitchen, blue for bathroom, however you want to do it. When it comes to packing goods for each room try your best to place heavy items, light items and fragile items in separate boxes and label them accordingly, this will help whoever is lifting the boxes.

All Hands on Deck

If you’re not using a removal service then make sure that you have as many pairs of hands helping out as possible, call family and friends, give them a set time and make sure you prepare some food beforehand to feed the workers.

Get Started Early

There are plenty of items in your house that you don’t use daily and you can get ahead of time by packing these up long before you are due to move, as moving day gets closer you can gradually pack more and more things. It is vitally important that you are all packed up and ready to go before your moving day.

Big Items

When it comes to big items like sofas, tables, chairs and appliances, try to get these moved into the new home as early as possible. It is always easier to move these large items into an empty house, if you need to remove doors or windows in order to move the big stuff in then you don’t want to be stepping over other items. Make sure that you package all big items up well and leave the packaging on until you are fully moved in so that you avoiding damaging or dirtying them.
