Lloyd Claycomb – Dealing With The Stresses of Running a Business

The world of business is an extremely challenging one that will test every bit of you, stress, pressure and tension are unfortunately regular features of the business world and you need to ensure that you are doing all that you can to stay focussed and more importantly, calm.

There are of course, a lot of great times and success to be found in business and people like Lloyd Claycomb who has been in business for over 40 years, are testament to the fact that with the right attitude, survival and success are possible. Let’s take a look then at how you can best handle the pressures of running a business.

Work Smart

Many people think that there is a requirement of putting in 100 plus hour weeks in order to achieve success in business. Whilst there is most certainly a case to be made for working hard, it is about working smart that is most important. If you forego sleep, fun and contact with the outside world for such long periods of time then the simple fact is that you will become far less effective at work. Instead of working 100 hours at 60%, it is far better to work 80 hours at 100% when it comes to finding success and staying calm.

Finding Ways to Relax

You may think that relaxation is something which you absolutely do not have time for but the truth is that a relaxed mind is a more effective mind and if you can make the time and find ways to stay relaxed then you will be able to deal with the pressures of running a business far better. You don’t have to spend hours and hours in a spa in order to relax, it could be something as little as 30 minuets each day having a massage, doing some exercise or even reading a book that can help you to feel relaxed and it is vital that you make the time to do it.

Share The Burden

It is impossible for you to do everything yourself and you need to remind yourself that your focus is on running the business, not working within it. For this reason you need to ensure that you have a solid team around you who can share the burden of managing the business. This could be a simple job that needs to be completed, a meeting that needs to be attended or even some advice that you may need in order to reach a decision. The biggest cause of stress amongst business owners is that they try to d everything themselves, often because they think that those around them cannot do the job. It is therefore important that you surround yourself with capable people who you trust, that can perform jobs that you give them. This will boost the abilities and confidence of those around you as well as giving you the freedom to run the business.
